The history of Bird Cage Club

Opened January 1, 1958 Closed 1959

The Bird Cage Club opened at First and Fremont Streets on January 1, 1958. The Neon Museum records that the casino lasted only sixteen months. The neighboring Mint expanded into its space in 1960.

The business disappeared quickly, but its two-story petrified-wood wall survived through later changes. The Mint retained the wall, and construction at Binion’s exposed it again in 2019. This is a case where a surviving building detail tells a longer story than the casino name on the door.

What remains uncertain

  • The source gives a sixteen-month operating life rather than an exact closing date; 1959 is recorded at year precision.
  • The wall’s 2019 rediscovery is a historical event, not a guarantee of present access or visibility.
