A brief history of Bird Cage Club

Historical image unavailable.

The Bird Cage Club opened at First and Fremont Streets on January 1, 1958. The Neon Museum records that the casino lasted only sixteen months. The neighboring Mint expanded into its space in 1960.

The business disappeared quickly, but its two-story petrified-wood wall survived through later changes. The Mint retained the wall, and construction at Binion’s exposed it again in 2019. This is a case where a surviving building detail tells a longer story than the casino name on the door.
