Wildfire on Fremont brought casino gaming back to part of the former Showboat grounds in a different form. It opened on February 10, 2023, at 2700 East Fremont Street as a neighborhood casino without a hotel. It is a new building and business, not the old Showboat or Castaways hotel under another name.

After the Showboat and Castaways

The larger site had once supported the Showboat’s hotel, casino and bowling complex. That resort became Castaways in 2000, closed in 2004 and was demolished in 2006. Station Casinos acquired the closed property in 2004. Later development divided the grounds: Showboat Park Apartments took one portion, while Wildfire was built on another. The old resort and the new casino therefore have related sites, but different footprints.

A smaller casino opens in 2023

The opening centered on a much smaller casino format. Station’s announcement described a 21,000-square-foot property with more than 200 machines, bar-top gaming, electronic table games and an STN sportsbook. An IHOP restaurant was part of the opening. These were opening-era features, rather than a promise that every machine or dining arrangement remains unchanged.

Remembering the land’s earlier name

The bar also acknowledged the land’s earlier life. Its opening cocktail list included names such as 1954 and Castaway(s), references to the neighborhood and the former resort. This was a new venue making use of local memory, rather than a claim that the Showboat’s bowling lanes or hotel tower had survived.

The property today

As checked in October 2026, the operator continues to list Wildfire on Fremont at the same address. Nevada’s June 2026 nonrestricted report records Wildfire Fremont separately from the other Wildfire locations. The historical photograph in the history section shows signage from the earlier Showboat at the Neon Boneyard in 2014. It does not show the Wildfire building, which opened nine years later, or identify the casino’s present entrance.

  3. Part of the former Showboat land

  9. The earlier casino’s preserved signage

What remains uncertain

  • The present casino occupies only part of the wider former Showboat/Castaways grounds. No identical footprints, surviving old hotel building or continuous resort operation is implied.
  • The historical photograph shows an earlier casino’s sign at the Neon Boneyard in 2014, not Wildfire, its current building or its entrance. A rights-cleared current Wildfire building photograph has not been established here.
  • Opening-era restaurant and machine descriptions are dated history, not current availability guarantees. Consult the operator for present visiting details.
  • The representative map point is inside the currently mapped casino and restaurant building area. It is not a verified entrance or a surveyed full-property outline.

Replaced Showboat / Castaways

2004 – 2023

Wildfire on Fremont opened in 2023 on part of the larger grounds formerly occupied by the Showboat hotel-casino, which had been renamed Castaways before closing in 2004 and being demolished in 2006. Other former resort land became Showboat Park Apartments. The new neighborhood casino is a replacement use on a portion of the historic property, not a renamed or renovated Showboat hotel, and the two complete footprints are not identical.

Historical source — Howard Stutz, February 2023 opening report: new Wildfire built on a section of the former Showboat site, with apartments on another portion. Corroborated by the city’s Castaways Site record at 2800 Fremont and the February 10, 2023 operator opening release. The contemporary October 4, 2004 transaction report supports Station’s purchase year; the later article’s 2005 date is not selected.

  • The new casino occupies only part of the larger former hotel-casino grounds. This relationship does not identify identical building or parcel boundaries.
  • Showboat and the Fremont Castaways are successive names of the earlier property; the original Strip Castaways is a separate casino at another site.
  • The selected Showboat sign photograph was taken at the Neon Boneyard in 2014. It does not show either casino’s former or present site.
