Virgin Hotels Las Vegas occupies the Paradise Road resort that opened as the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on March 10, 1995. Its original identity put rock music at the center of a Las Vegas hotel-casino. The contemporary opening report described a $100 million project with a 28,000-square-foot casino; those figures describe the opening property, before later expansion.

The resort grew before its eventual change of brand. In May 1999, contemporary reporting described a new eleven-story tower and an expansion that doubled the original 340-room hotel. Music, hotel rooms and gaming developed together at a site east of the Strip.

Virgin Hotels and an investment partnership purchased the Hard Rock in March 2018. Their announcement proposed remodeling the existing rooms, restaurants and public spaces. The Hard Rock closed on February 3, 2020, for that conversion. Early opening targets slipped: the actual Virgin-branded reopening came on March 25, 2021, when Mohegan opened the casino to guests at 6 p.m.

Mohegan’s involvement was one chapter in the casino’s management history. In May 2024, the resort and Mohegan announced a transition toward integrated gaming operations. Mohegan’s subsequent financial statement records the landlord assuming ownership of the casino on February 28, 2025. The original 2021 opening announcement should therefore not be read as a description of the current operator.

When checked in October 2026, Virgin continued to offer hotel stays, gaming, dining and live entertainment at 4455 Paradise Road. The site’s history connects the original Hard Rock resort to its renovated Virgin incarnation; the 1995 opening date identifies the property’s beginnings, while 2021 marks the Virgin name’s debut.

This is a different site from the Hard Rock development at the former Mirage on Las Vegas Boulevard. Hard Rock International’s own acquisition statement distinguishes that Strip project from the earlier off-Strip hotel. A reused brand does not join their physical histories. The map here retains a representative point within the Paradise Road resort, not an entrance or a survey of the original 1995 building.

What remains uncertain

  • The 1995 opening date refers to the original Hard Rock property. Virgin reopened the renovated resort on March 25, 2021; announced earlier targets were superseded.
  • The Hard Rock name at the former Mirage refers to a separate site and redevelopment.
