The Palazzo Las Vegas

The Palazzo began opening on December 30, 2007, north of and connected to The Venetian. That date marks a partial resort opening. Its hotel suites did not open to the public until January 2008, the grand-opening fireworks followed on January 17, and the Shoppes opened on January 18 with some tenants still unfinished. Its launch was a sequence, rather than a single moment when everything was ready.

New development north of The Venetian

Las Vegas Sands developed the new resort on land that included the Tam O’Shanter Motel and other small businesses. In January 2004, a company representative and the motel’s manager described the planned clearance north of The Venetian. This was a new building project on that land, not a rename of the older Venetian hotel.

Fitting a resort onto the site

The site shaped its construction. Steel contractor Schuff describes a building occupying much of the available footprint, with Las Vegas Boulevard on one side and an operating resort alongside it. Four underground parking levels helped fit the programme onto the site, while deliveries, work space and coordination among trades became major challenges. HKS was the architect, with Walter P. Moore providing structural engineering.

Connected, with a different design

The Palazzo offered another version of an Italian-inspired resort. Sands’ contemporary filing described modern European design and Italian luxury, rather than simply extending The Venetian’s recreations of Venice. Direct connections joined its casino, suites, shopping and dining to The Venetian and the convention facilities. The two named properties formed an integrated complex while retaining distinct buildings and opening histories.

A new ownership arrangement

Ownership changed in February 2022. Sands completed the sale of The Venetian Resort, including Palazzo and the Expo. Apollo-managed funds acquired the operating business, while VICI acquired the land and real estate and leased them to the operating company. That transaction changed the ownership arrangement without making Palazzo a replacement for The Venetian.

The next suite collection

In June 2026, the operator announced Milano, a 275-suite collection within The Palazzo with a Milan-inspired design and separate arrival services. Its current page says reservations open in March 2027. That future milestone is not proof that the collection has already opened or a confirmed first occupied night. Milano is a suite offering within the existing property, not a new casino.

The Palazzo remains an operating casino hotel within The Venetian Resort. Its history shows how an added tower and casino can share a larger complex without losing its own chronology. The map marks the current hotel and casino building area; it does not outline every part of the connected resort or identify an entrance.

  2. Building on a constrained site

Schuff Steel’s first-person project account, read October 20, 2026: four underground parking levels; tight site bordered by Las Vegas Boulevard and an operating resort; trade/delivery coordination. The January 2004 motel-clearance report was written before closure and demolition. It does not establish their exact completed dates or a former casino identity.

Sources describe the tower as 50 floors or 53 stories using different counts. No exact floor count or current room-total superlative is adopted here.

The Milano page’s March 2027 reservation milestone is a future operator timetable, not a verified opening or guarantee of access to private suite areas.

The mapped hotel/casino building differs from the separate tower and the wider connected resort; coordinates do not identify a visitor entrance.

Shared or overlapping site with The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

December 30, 2007

The Palazzo was built north of and directly connected to The Venetian, adding another hotel tower, casino, shops and dining to the wider resort and convention complex. Its partial opening in December 2007 and hotel opening in January 2008 followed The Venetian’s 1999 opening. These are connected parts of a larger resort site, with distinct buildings and opening histories; Palazzo did not rename, renovate or replace The Venetian.

  • Shared resort site means an integrated connected complex, not identical casino footprints or the same hotel tower.
  • The Palazzo’s partial resort opening and later public hotel suites are separate milestones.
  • The older Sands site under The Venetian should not be equated with every part of the later enlarged complex.
