Suncoast opened on September 12, 2000, at Rampart Boulevard and Alta Drive in the western Las Vegas Valley. Developed by the Coast casino group, it was planned as a place for nearby residents to return to, with gaming accompanied by restaurants, bowling and a cinema.
The name changed before the doors opened. In February 1999, the Las Vegas Sun reported that the project would be called Suncoast rather than Sundance. That was a change to a proposed development’s name, not the renaming of an operating Sundance casino. It should not be confused with the earlier Downtown Sundance, which became Fitzgeralds and later The D.
Boyd Gaming acquired Suncoast with the Coast Casinos merger on July 1, 2004. The casino continued under the Suncoast name. A later corporate acquisition therefore belongs in the property’s ownership history, rather than being treated as its opening date.
A substantial renovation program began in late 2023. Boyd’s March 2024 announcement described a transformation that would reach the casino floor, food and drink spaces, meeting facilities and bowling center. The operator presented the work as reinvestment in a neighborhood property approaching its twenty-fifth year.
The work proceeded in phases. By October 2026, Suncoast’s own renovation page listed new meeting and event spaces and the BarSC center bar as open, while the hotel tower and rooms were still described as renovation work with a winter 2026 target. It also distinguished the partly reopened bowling center from its planned completion, and placed exterior and parking work in winter 2027.
Those different stages matter to the present-day history. Suncoast remains an operating casino resort, but an announcement of an “all-new” experience does not mean every part has finished changing. The current site is at 9090 Alta Drive; the map marks a representative area within the main casino building, without promising an entrance, a hotel-room opening date or access through construction areas.
