The Palms opened on November 15, 2001, bringing the Maloof family’s casino business to West Flamingo Road. George Maloof aimed to attract young visitors while retaining features for local customers. It was a different proposition from the family’s earlier Fiesta in North Las Vegas: a resort that could sell a fashionable night out as well as a familiar neighborhood casino visit.
Nightlife and celebrity helped give the Palms a profile beyond its off-Strip address. Its appearance in an MTV reality show carried that image to viewers elsewhere, while the property expanded beyond its original hotel. By the time of its later reopening, the complex included two hotel towers, the Pearl theater, a cinema and the separate Palms Place condominium-hotel building.
Ownership changed as well. Station Casinos, part of Red Rock Resorts, completed its acquisition on October 1, 2016. A substantial renovation followed, with the operator later describing more than $600 million of work in 2019. The Palms then closed during the March 2020 pandemic shutdown and remained closed when many other Las Vegas casinos reopened.
A new chapter followed the sale to the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority, an affiliate of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. Regulatory approval arrived in December 2021. The casino reopened on April 27, 2022, with a Tribal ceremony, music and fireworks; hotel guests returned the following morning. The change brought Tribal ownership and operation to an existing, recently renovated Las Vegas resort.
The long closure separated two eras of the same property. It was not the end of the Palms name, nor the construction of a replacement casino on a demolished site. Some familiar places returned while the new owner developed its own approach to the resort.
When checked in October 2026, Palms continued to offer hotel stays, gaming, restaurants and entertainment at 4321 West Flamingo Road. The adjacent Palms Place remains a distinct building within the wider complex. The map here identifies an area within the main hotel-casino building, not Palms Place, a visitor entrance or the complete resort grounds.
