Gold Coast opened on West Flamingo Road in December 1986, west of the Strip and across Interstate 15 from its biggest resorts. It belonged to Michael Gaughan’s Coast casino business and developed a lasting role as a place for repeat local visits as well as overnight stays. Its later mix of bowling, bingo, restaurants and hotel rooms made the property useful for much more than a single evening at the tables.
By the early 2000s, Coast’s company reports were recording expansion and remodeling at Gold Coast alongside work at The Orleans. The two remained separate resorts, with different sites and opening dates. Shared ownership did not make one a later name for the other.
Food became a particularly distinctive part of Gold Coast’s story. Karrie and Kevin Wu opened Ping Pang Pong in 2001. In a 2013 interview, Karrie described a restaurant business that also included Noodle Asia at the Venetian and, from 2009, Noodle Exchange at Gold Coast. The restaurant history connected this off-Strip casino to the wider city’s Chinese dining scene.
Boyd Gaming acquired Gold Coast on July 1, 2004, through its merger with Coast Casinos. The change brought the property into Boyd’s wider portfolio without changing its familiar name or moving it to a new site.
In July 2017, Boyd announced that Ping Pang Pong had opened a redesigned and enlarged dining room, with more than 300 seats and a private banquet space. The investment expanded a restaurant that was already established within the casino. It illustrates a recurring part of Gold Coast’s development: renewing reasons for guests to return while retaining the property’s identity.
The name can be misleading to someone arriving in Las Vegas for the first time. This Gold Coast is an inland hotel-casino on Flamingo Road, not a geographical coastal district. When checked in October 2026, it remained an operating resort at 4000 West Flamingo Road. Its operator still emphasized local hospitality, dining and bowling alongside the casino. The map identifies the main building area, rather than a visitor entrance or the limits of its parking grounds.
