A brief history of Eastside Cannery Casino and Hotel

Historical image unavailable.

Eastside Cannery opened on August 28, 2008, on Boulder Highway, replacing the smaller Nevada Palace on a larger redeveloped site. Construction had begun while parts of the older hotel-casino continued operating. Nevada Palace closed on February 29, 2008, and was cleared; its roadside area became parking in front of the new resort.

The new Eastside Cannery was more than a change of signs. Its hotel, casino, restaurants, ballroom and entertainment spaces created a much larger destination. It borrowed the industrial theme of the original Cannery in North Las Vegas, while serving a different neighborhood of the Valley. The two Cannery properties were sister resorts, not successive names for one building.

Boyd Gaming acquired both properties on December 20, 2016. Its filing identified the Eastside operating company as Nevada Palace, LLC, a surviving legal name. That company name does not mean the demolished Nevada Palace casino and the later Eastside resort were the same physical property.

Eastside Cannery closed to the public on March 18, 2020, during the statewide pandemic shutdown. Unlike the North Las Vegas Cannery, it never reopened. Boyd later said there was insufficient demand to bring it back, with some business having shifted to nearby Sam’s Town.

The closure became permanent. Demolition plans were announced in October 2025, and the hotel tower was imploded shortly after 2 a.m. on March 5, 2026. Boyd’s June 2026 filing confirmed the implosion and described work to clear and restore the land as underway. Possible housing redevelopment was discussed; it was not an operating replacement casino.

The map preserves a point within the former main building’s outline. Some community mapping still labels that outline as a building, but the demolition evidence takes precedence: visitors should understand it as a former site. Nevada Palace’s approximate roadside location lies farther west within the larger redevelopment area. The two points show successive uses of the same broader site, without claiming identical walls or footprints.

Replaced Nevada Palace Hotel and Casino

August 28, 2008

Eastside Cannery replaced Nevada Palace within a larger Boulder Highway redevelopment. Construction proceeded while parts of Nevada Palace still operated; the older casino closed February 29, 2008, and its roadside area became frontage parking. Eastside opened August 28, 2008, in a new main building farther east. The former properties share a broader site, not identical walls or footprints. Eastside later closed in 2020 and was demolished in 2026.

Contemporary LVRJ29February2008 farewell report establishes old site became parking in front of new resort; distinct footprint. BoydJune2026 Note9 confirms later closure and implosion.

  • The exact original Nevada Palace footprint has not been reconstructed. Its map point is approximate roadfront vicinity, separate from the later main-building point.
  • Nevada Palace LLC survived as the later property’s operating-company name; this legal continuity does not establish unchanged physical buildings.
