Durango brought Station Casinos’ neighborhood-resort model to the southwest Las Vegas Valley. It opened on December 5, 2023, beside Durango Drive and the 215 Beltway, on a site the company described as approximately 50 acres. Its history begins with new construction rather than the renaming of an older casino.
Station marked the project’s ceremonial groundbreaking in March 2022. W.A. Richardson Builders managed construction, with Friedmutter Group as architect of record. The design drew on the desert: an agave emblem, warm colors and a hotel lobby organized around natural stone and light. These choices gave the project a recognizable identity before its doors opened.
At opening, the casino, hotel and restaurants were deliberately interconnected. Eat Your Heart Out gathered food counters around a communal hall, while the sportsbook joined a dining and entertainment lounge. The result was a resort built around several ways of spending an evening, serving the surrounding Valley as well as overnight visitors.
Expansion followed soon after opening. Station’s December 2025 account records a casino-floor extension that had opened on November 7 and announced a new high-limit slot room and south parking garage for December 15. Those additions developed the existing resort; they did not create a separate casino identity.
The larger north expansion is a different chapter. Announced in October 2025, it proposed bowling, movie theaters, more dining and additional gaming space. When checked in October 2026, Durango’s own website described construction as underway and the new amenities as coming in 2027. Those facilities should therefore be understood as an expansion in progress, rather than part of the completed 2023 opening.
Durango remains an operating hotel-casino under its original resort name. Its short history shows how a new neighborhood destination can grow in stages: first the hotel, casino and gathering spaces, then additions intended to broaden the reasons for returning.
