Coin Castle was a former Fremont Street casino whose premises later became La Bayou. It belongs to the sequence of small businesses along the street, rather than to a single casino operating unchanged under every name associated with the site.
Names on Fremont Street can describe successive businesses as well as successive buildings. Coin Castle’s separate record helps a reader connect an older photograph to the later La Bayou name while keeping those operations distinct. UNLV preserves a dedicated Coin Castle file among its regional hotel and casino records.
Coin Castle, approximately 1980 to 2000, in the UNLV Libraries Collection of Regional History Files. Material dates do not establish operating dates. Checked October 31, 2026.
What remains uncertain
The approximately 1980–2000 span in the UNLV catalog describes the archival file, not verified operating dates.
Opening and closing fields remain unspecified pending an exact operating chronology.
A shared site does not make Coin Castle, Northern Club and La Bayou interchangeable identities.
