Boulder Station opened on August 23, 1994, on Boulder Highway in the eastern Las Vegas Valley. It brought Station Casinos’ hotel, gaming and entertainment model beyond Palace Station’s west-side location. Its history belongs to the development of casinos serving Valley residents, alongside the better-known growth of resorts on the Strip.
Station expands beyond Palace
Station’s account of the project credits Frank Fertitta III with overseeing it from inception after succeeding his father. The company’s 1997 annual report places Boulder within a wider expansion that also included properties in Missouri and other parts of the Valley. Boulder was a separate new casino, not a rename of Palace Station or a relocated railway station.
Adding more than gaming
Expansion followed quickly. By the 1997 report, the resort included a movie theater complex and child-care facility as well as hotel rooms, restaurants and gaming. The report records a new parking garage and entertainment facilities during the fiscal year ending March 1996. Those additions help explain how a casino hotel became a place for several kinds of local outings.
Music at The Railhead
Live entertainment became another part of Boulder Station’s identity. The Railhead hosted performers including Merle Haggard, Toby Keith and Brad Paisley, according to the operator’s 2019 anniversary account. The venue gave the property a musical history alongside the business of the casino and hotel.
People who stayed
The anniversaries also reveal continuity among the people working there. In 2024 the operator celebrated its thirtieth year and recognized employees who had been present since opening. That commemoration looked back to a 1994 workplace while the property continued to change around it. It is a different measure of continuity from a sign or an unchanged building name.
