Vegas Retold

The history of 49’er Club

The 49’er Club was a short-lived casino on Fremont Street in the early 1950s. Its name survives in historical street photographs, gaming collectibles and records of proposed bingo operations, rather than in a long-lived resort building.

This club is a useful reminder that a recognizable casino sign can represent a very brief business history. The surviving photographs help recover a name that can disappear inside later accounts of Fremont Street’s larger casinos. Its record is kept separate from the Fortune Club name that followed in accounts of the site.

What remains uncertain

  • Research sources describe a 1951–1952 operation, but exact opening and closing days have not been established here.
  • Sources differ on the street number: Over50Vegas uses 109 Fremont, while Vintage Las Vegas places the relevant lot under 107.
  • Photographic dates, licensing actions and uninterrupted operation are not interchangeable.
